The novel we are starting is about Thailand in the 1970s. It is about one girl's coming-of-age in a small town (sound familiar?). She wants to be different from the people in her family and change the culture she lives in, while maintaining respect for her heritage.

Con~ Military is often completely misused and misguided.
3)Loss of land, VERY poor, and the government doesn't care for them, unless the peasents don't pay them.
4)As they learned about democracy they decided to over throw the militant government, and travle around Thailand to help out the farmers.
5)They thought that after taking over that the militant government would give up, and focused completely on helping, and not building a military of their own to repress the old military powers.
6)I agree that it IS naive to believe you can do anything by trying, because you need skills, statagies, and goals to accomplish even the smallest tasks. However I could also disagree because you can't accomplish anything if you don't try.
