Journal- I've learned a lot, I learned how to use context clues to find out the meaning of a word.
ReplyDeleteI like how we have conversations in class about random things, that somehow tend to contribute to the thing we're learning in class.
I appreieciate that the class is relitively slow. All my other classes, we're never given time to study something before we move on to the next thing. >.< It's the most aggrivating thing in the world. It's the main reason i'm having trouble in my other classes. I like that you(Mrs.Perkins) are very outgoing. It makes getteing along with you very simple.

Well this class is very different from the one I had last year. The one from last year the teacher just made us listen to the stories and do some boring stuff. Unlike this one, I learned more in depth the stories we have read cause the stories were reading I read them in my class from last year and they really didn't make that much sense cause the teacher really didn't go in depth with the SOAPSTone and all those things that Mrs.Perkins has given me so it has really helped me with my English skills and writing skills and I'm positive I'm going to pass this time.

I like how we are able to discuss on thing together rather than us doing everything on our own. I have learned a lot compared to last year. I have learned that if you don't know a word to look it up or use context clues.
ReplyDelete- Jasmine Rubio
I have learned different techniques in the class, and we have practiced SAT stuff this will help us get ready for college, we should learn grammer things.
ReplyDeleteLearned rhetorical analysis. The proper structure of an essay. I want to do more debates, they are fun.
ReplyDeleteNicholas McCullen
I learned about rhetorical analysis and how many writers used them in their passages. I have became a better writer and it helped me not only in this class but in others as well. I like how we talk about certain subjects because it helps me understand the subject better
ReplyDelete-Tyler Farley
I have learned how to write a paper in MLA format.
ReplyDeleteI like that we learn vocabulary and do the SAT questions of the day because both will help us when we take the SAT.
ReplyDeleteI have learned a lot of useful vocabulary throughout this course. This will help me in future classes because it will make my writing sound more intelligent.
ReplyDeleteI like that we do vocabulary every week because I really need to learn more words.
ReplyDelete-Aaron Love
I like doing the SAT questions because they were very helpful on the PSAT and I hope they will be very helpful on the actual SAT when we begin to take it. Also I have learned a lot about how to write argumentative papers and rhetorical analysis papers.
ReplyDeleteThroughout this class I have learned that alot of writers use rhetorical analysis to get their main point across. I have also learned how to pick apart a passage, and tell what kind of strategies the author is using.
ReplyDeleteI have learned a lot about the rhetorical triangle, and how to use it to successfully interpret the author's central arguement.
ReplyDelete-Ana Mitchell
I like the fact that we have done so many papers. Even though at the time I didn't want to do them, I think that writing all of those have helped me improve my writing skills tremendously. I also liked reading the "Scarlet Letter" and I liked reading Thoreau too.
ReplyDeleteThroughout this class I have learned how to write my papers more efficiently and I also learned how to edited them by reading them aloud to myself.
ReplyDeleteI really like the SAT questions we do because they prepare me for the SAT and help me understand things I didn't know. During the time I have been in this class I have learned how to use rhetorical strategies. -Cullen Boyette
ReplyDeleteOne thing I like about this class is that we are becoming a family more and more each day. :) I also like when we do philosophical chairs. I think it lets us voice our opinions. Tutoring would have to be another thing I like. I fell like it really does help us with whatever we need help with.
ReplyDeleteI really like tutorials and journals. Journals because I can express myself and my thoughts. Tutorials are fun and helps you get to know other people. You help out a friend in tutorials . I'm really looking forward for AVID trips with our group .
ReplyDelete- Brittany McElveen
I like how we have a period of time to do our homework. Another thing I like is how the group gets together and we do activities.
ReplyDeleteThe thing I really like about this class is that we learn things because, last year my english teacher didn't teach us anything. We started learning things when we were about to take the EOG and the EOC. I like learning some thing new everyday for example when we do the SAT question there are big words and then we find out what they mean. Also when we learned about SOAPSTONE.
ReplyDeleteone thing that i like about this class is the tutorials we have and the journals too. When we do tutorials we always get the tutor that is really great in that subject and the take us through the steps to get the answer. Now the journals help us write better so we can be prepare to write any type of essay like our life goals. One other thing i like about our class is the college field trips we get to go to and learn the different things students major in that school.
ReplyDelete-Cristian Silva
I really like doing tutorials. They help me a lot. I understand it more & i don't sit there & struggle. They are also fun to do, because your in a different group every time & you get other peoples opinions. I am also looking forward to the college trips.
ReplyDeleteI like a lot about this class. At the beginning i didn't think it was for me. But now i really do enjoy it. I've met a whole lot of new people and we've became good friends. I really do like how we have the tutorials. They really do help me a lot. Also i like how layed back you are. You can let us have some fun but when its time to buckle down we buckle down. So, overall i really do enjoy this class and i think and hope it will keep getting better as time goes on.

I like the stuff we do what i learned in this class is how to be better at grammer and improve how i speak and learn new words
ReplyDeleteMilton J
Well this class is extreeeeeeeeeemmmlyyyyy! different from the one that I had any other year. The one that i had lyear before the last, the teacher just made us listen to the stories and do some boring stuff. this one is fun and more hands on, I learned more in depth of the stories we have read cause the stories were ones where i have either seen the movie or my mom read it.i learned the way of the SOAPSTone and all these other things that Mrs.Perkins has been teaching me so it has really helped me with my English skills and writing skills. even though before i did well, i think that this time i am doing much, much better. i understand more literary terms and vocabulary so I'm positive I'm going to pass this time, but even better than the last.
ReplyDelete-Katie oquinn
Ahh, what can I say? It is WAY WAY WAY different from last year. I still remember when we had your Bridal Shower! I learned a whole lot of things then from middle school because in middle school the teacher would just pick out a book and put us in groups. They really didn't do much then you do. I would consider them lazy because they just handed us worksheets and the questions weren't even related to the book, which made the class fail. I learned a lot of things in AVID / Adv. Comp. like SOAPSTone of course. The difference between characters and I still remember Ethos, Pathos, and Logos from last year! I write better then I did when I was in middle school. I'm kind of passing but it's okay because I'm being pushed to succeed my achievements and I'm learning new words! :D woot woot! Plus I'm a mentor to my "manatee!" I learned to read kind of faster than I ever did before. This class is more hands on and so FUN! Were going to visit universities which I'm SUPER excited about! well Mrs. Casto / Perkins I hope I have you for another year and I hope it's 4th block too because if I do have it fourth block.. I promise I'll be saying HOME SWEET HOME every time!
ReplyDeleteI feel like this year is so much better than last year . This year I've learned a lot of more things and the class debates are fun. I am planning of learning more things.
ReplyDelete-Edsoncejudo
I have learned a lot. The SAT and the journals really help. I think that i still need to work on grammer and writing more things. Reading really helps me , because now when im reading im not quick to judge a book without trying it out first.
ReplyDelete-Taheisha
I have learned a lot of new vocabulary words in this class. I like the journals and SAT questions. they help a lot.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I have learn in this class is how to soapstone a story and a lot of whole new words. I like all that we do in this class.
ReplyDelete-Something that I like about this class is that we do work but we make it kind of fun too. I also like the fact we can listen to music when we are doing our work. We always have time to do our work too in other classes teachers really push us to do a lot of work and in this class we do work but is just a good amount of work.
ReplyDelete-In this class I have learned a lot of things. Now I know more about child manipulation and I didn't knew a lot about that before.
-Jesenia Hernandez
This is my favorite class. I like this class because we have fun educated moments. My teacher is really cool, and understands us. We do TRF's which are very helpful. we can be a little social, but also helpful. I really like this class and i hope to be in it next year.
ReplyDelete-Jamal
This year i learned a lot more about the meaning of Avid. Last year we didn't learn a whole entire lot but we did learn some. We didn't pick up the learning pace until maybe near the Eog's and the Eocs. I can now recite what SOAPSTone means and i know what Ethos,Pathos and Logos means.
ReplyDelete-Kiara Quick
Journal- I have learned a lot I learned how to use context clues to find out the meaning of a word.I also like how we have a period of time to do our homework. The SAT and the journals really help I think that i still need to work on grammer and writing more things.
ReplyDeleteFrom AVID, I have learned a lot. I like tutorials, because they help me get things straight in my other classes. I love the freewrites, because I can express myself. I have learned to be good at writing essays. I still need help in my other classes. :(
ReplyDeleteI have learned a lot throughout this AP Lang. course. I have learned how to write in MLA format. I have also learned how to use certain rhetorical strategies. One of the most important things I've learned is how to write different type of papers like, rhetorical analysis', argumentation, etc. I believe I still need work on writing my papers.
