1. or 4. "Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night" by Dylan Thomas

“Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night”
By Dylan Thomas

Do not go gentle into that good night.
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

  1. I think that this poem was.....kind of creepy. I couldn't tell if he was trying to be mean to his dad or if hes just being presumptuous.Maybe he just hated his dad and went through all of this trouble to write this hard poem about him.

  4. I think this poem was alright it had kind of a bad mood to it I don't think he liked his dad that very much. I guess he went through alot with his dad when he was younger. The Ryhme Schene of this poem is "do not go gently into that goodnight" and another one is " Rage, rage against the dying of the light."

  7. I thought this poem was pretty understanding, after I started to understand it a little bit. The poem had a hard and confusing rhyme scheme. The rhyme scheme was "a b a a." What I learned about this poem was, that it takes a lot of time to make a poem like that. I learned how to do the rhyme scheme and a lot more things I did not know, well I knew I just didn't understand and everything.

  10. This poem kind of sounds like a sound that's suppose to be in a horror movie. I guess he made it cause he had a lot of feels build up about his dad so he just let it out.

  12. Dylan Thomas is pretty good in rhyming, but this poem of his is kind of disturbing, and odd. He wrote this poem, in honor of his dad, who recently died, and he misses him. That's what I think this poem is about.

  14. This poem was really thoughtful but it was strange to me because after his Dad died he died. This poem was sad because his dad ment alot to him and he was thoughtful enough to create a poem about him.

  17. My first thought is that is how I live in other words "Don't Die Silent" that is the line I live by.

  18. My thought of the poem is that Dylan was mad and sad about his father's death so he made a poem to express his feelings.

  19. The title to me means don't give up that easy fight through the hard times and you can make it.....Say what you have to say before you ending life because when your dead there is nothing left to say because you can't hear that person or that person can'theaar what you have to say

  20. My thought about the poem is that Dylan wanted to show that you shouldn't just live and die you must do something with your life.

  22. The poem was very depressing, he talked about his father as though he was an angry man. I couldn't tell if he hated his father, or was being generous about his fathers death; besides all that, the poem was depressing and sounded angry.

  23. My very first thought was that it is depressing because it just gave me that feeling, but then I start to understand it's about his father dieing and it's saying don't let in easy don't die without fighting and to not die without leaving something good behind.

  25. It was sad because he was refering to losing his dad at a young age. But it was ironic that his dad died at a young age and then so did he. It makes you feel bad because you know he was depressed by the tone and moral of the story.

  26. He is saying to live your life to the fullest, but not to waste it by being foolish. This peom is a little depressing, but most poetry is.

  27. My first impression was it was very depressing, but it was kind of cool because it was ironic how his dad died at a young age and then so he did.
